Our Servers
Greenleaf Technology provides comprehensive data storage solutions. Our servers enable you to protect, centralize, and organize your data. They excel as basic network-attached storage (NAS) devices, but are capable of much, much more. Our servers can be modified and upgraded to run video encoding and transcoding software, virtual machines, web and email server software, automated backup software, you name it. If it will run on Linux, chances are it will run on a Greenleaf server. Some of our servers also feature IPMI, which allows you to access BIOS on the local network through a web interface for truly headless server management.
All our server models are designed to be as eco-friendly as possible. By using modern hardware and power-budgeting software control we are able to build servers that offer immense capacities and performance while still maintaining a power-sipping profile. All of our servers are designed to be run 24/7 without sending your power bills through the roof.
We always design our servers to be as quiet as possible, and each server has a noise rating of ‘silent’, ‘quiet’, or ‘loud’. Silent servers can be integrated into any home theater system or office without adding any noise to the environment. Quiet servers produce about the same amount of noise as a standard desktop computer, and are easily drowned out by ambient noise. Loud servers are appropriate for installation in a basement, garage, or other out-of-the-way location.
The Best Operating System
If you are reading this page, you probably know you need a storage solution but you may not know which one or why. Greenleaf was created to provide the most efficient and secure data storage solutions.
If you are in need of a data storage solution, then you are likely already using one or all of the following approaches:
- backing up and archiving data to one or many external hard drives
- backing up and archiving data to BluRay, DVDs, and CDs
- backing up and archiving data to USB flash drives
- backing up and archiving data to older technology, such as tape, zip drives, or floppies
All of the above share a common downfall – if the drive or disc fails in any way, be it hardware failure, physical damage, or any other means, there is often no chance of recovering the data that was lost. A proper storage solution involves a plan to protect your data, not just store it.
Our servers run the acclaimed unRAID operating system. Developed by Lime Technology, unRAID is the best home server operating system available today. unRAID offers the flexibility and expandability that our servers require. Unlike the alternatives, unRAID technology uses a dedicated parity disk to protect all data stored on the server against hard drive failure. There’s no need to decide how much of your data deserves to be protected – protect it all!
unRAID also allows our servers to mix-and-match disks, which means greater flexibility and cheaper upgrade costs for you. Have some old 500 GB or 1 TB drives going to waste? Plug them into the server; unRAID will run them alongside your modern 4 TB drives. These are just a few of the many advantages that set unRAID a cut above the rest. The cost of your unRAID registration key is included in the cost of your server and the key will be purchased using your name. This entitles you to support from Lime Technology as well as our support team.
Testing Methods
Greenleaf servers are designed, tested, and assembled by hand in the U.S. All of our hardware survives a rigorous gauntlet of tests before being packaged and shipped, including
- RAM passes memtest for 24+ sequential hours
- Every drive passes preclear at least twice
- Every drive slot (drive bay, SATA port, etc.) passes at least one preclear cycle
- Parity sync and parity check complete without errors
- Hundreds of GBs of test data are transferred to and from the server over the network and verified with CRC and/or MD5 checks
Every hard drive shipped with a Greenleaf server has also passed preclear at least twice. This means that the drive has proven itself capable and trustworthy.
Still not convinced if a Greenleaf server is right for you? Have further questions? Drop us a line and we’ll be happy to talk to you about your data storage needs and help you develop a comprehensive data storage solution.
